Director Pastreich Discussed Future Exchanges with Saudi Arabia King Saud University

Director Pastreich visited King Saud University to discuss future cooperation and exchanges in business and technology with SolBridge. He reached agreement for exchange of faculty and students and has entered into a project on technology and international relations with Dr. Mezyad Alterkawi, CEO of the Riyadh Technology Incubation Center at King Saud University.


King Saud University’s Delegation Complies An invitation from The G8 University Summit 2009 in Torino, Italy

Complying with a special invitation from The G8 University Summit 2009, a delegation from King Saud University participated in the summit’s events that were held during the period of 18-19 May 2009 in Torino, Italy. The delegation was commissioned by His Excellency the Rector Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al-Othman and included Dr. Mezyad bin Mashhour Alterkawi and other doctors from the King Saud University. Dr. Mezyad bin Mashhour Alterkawi was representing His Excellency the Rector Prof. Dr. Abdullah bin Abdul Rahman Al-Othman.

King Saud University was the only university in Saudi Arabia and the GCC states which was invited to attend this world summit. King Saud University’s presence revealed in the introductory speech of the summit’s president in which he indicated to its role that has recently glittered. The summit’s president described King Saud University to the summit participants saying, “the strong King Saud University " then he asked the head of the KSU delegation, Dr. Alterkawi to give the university word. In his turn, Dr. Alterkawi provided a brief definition of the university, highlighting its achievements that caught the attention of the international public opinion. In the same context, Dr. Alterkawi talked about the university’s efforts in establishing the project of Riyadh Techno Valley in response to the directions of the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques in transforming the Saudi economy into a knowledge based economy to ensure the ability of the kingdom’s generations to cope with the era of sustainable technology and its challenges. He, also, stressed on King Saud University’s adoption to this pioneering vision to execute the Kingdom’s strategies towards knowledge based economy.

The 2009 Summit has adopted, during its events, four major pivots which are: Economics, Ethics, Energy Policy and Ecology. One of the most prominent outputs of the World Summit in Torino, Italy 2009 is the summit's declaration concerning the education and the research for sustainable and responsible development.

On behalf of His Excellency the Rector, the delegation stressed on the importance of the summit's declaration contents on the education and the research for a sustainable development and emphasized on the importance of universities and educational institutions continuity to support the initiative sought to preserve our natural environment. Then, the delegation, represented by Dr. Alterkawi on behalf of His Excellency the Rector, signed the declaration of the academic support emphasizing on education for sustainable development.
